PRESS RELEASE
The Kearsarge Community Band is seeking a new Music Director to replace Aarne Vesilind who will retire as Director in January, 2017, according to Peggy Prew, President of the Kearsarge Community Band.
Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings, 7-9 PM, in the New London Outing Club gym. The band plays three formal concerts during the academic year and hosts the Festival of New Hampshire Community Bands in the fall. The “summer version” of the band (currently directed and overseen by the Associate Music Director) performs concerts, mini-concerts and parades for local events and at local bandstands throughout the Kearsarge/Lake Sunapee/Ragged Mountain area.
The Kearsarge Community Band currently has approximately 50 musicians, ranging in age from 16 to 85, from all walks of life and with varying degrees of musical talent. The band welcomes new members, without audition, and plays a wide variety of music, ranging from marches, waltzes, folk songs, show tunes, swing and jazz numbers to overtures and light classical music.
President Peggy Prew praised the leadership of the retiring Director, Aarne Vesilind, and attributed the tremendous growth and development of the band to his leadership and “making music for the fun of it” for the players and the audiences alike. Aarne will remain with the band as a euphonium player.
The KCB Music Director interacts with a number of community leaders and groups as well as with the band members and other NH band directors. In addition to knowledge and understanding of band music, the Director needs to espouse the philosophy of the “community band”, enjoy working with people and demonstrate a lively and wholesome sense of humor.
The KCB, an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, is a 501 (c) (3), non-profit organization
